Stealing

Guide

Raiding other gardens is the headline new feature in Grow a Garden 2. Unlike the original game, stealing is free for everyone — but it only works at night, and getting the loot home is the hard part.

When you can steal: the night cycle

Stealing is tied entirely to the day/night cycle. You cannot raid anyone during the day — the steal action simply won't work. When night falls the whole server darkens for a short window (around two and a half minutes), and any garden whose owner isn't standing inside it becomes a target. Watch the sky: the moment it goes dark is your cue to move.

You can only take from unlocked gardens — ones where the owner is not currently inside their fences. If a player is home, their plot is sealed and you can't touch it.

How to steal, step by step

The loop itself is simple, but every second counts:

  1. Wait for night and find a garden with no one defending it.
  2. Walk up to the crop you want and press E to pick it up.
  3. Carry it back to your own plot on foot. A crop only becomes yours once it reaches your garden.

The catch: no teleporting home

The instant you pick up a stolen crop, your garden teleport is disabled — you have to run the whole way back. That makes distance the single biggest factor in a successful raid. If you grab something on the far side of the map, you'll be exposed the entire trip, and other players can take that crop right out of your hands before you get home. Early on, only target gardens close to your own.

Getting past defenses

Fences and walls block direct entry, but several tools open a path: a Jump Mushroom to leap a wall, a Shrink Mushroom to squeeze through gaps, or a crowbar to breach an owner door. Watch your step, though — defenders plant traps and hazards (see the defense guide) specifically to punish careless raiders. Note that the game runs a movement anti-cheat, so exploiting your way in isn't an option the way it was in the original.

Smart raiding

Treat stealing as a calculated risk, not a habit. Hit gardens near your own so the run home is short, bring a friend who can fight off rivals while you haul the crop, and prioritise high-value targets that are worth the exposure. If a defender catches you carrying their crop, they can attack you to take it back — so don't linger.

Stay safe

Never join random private servers from strangers promising free items — some run scripts that strip everything you own the moment you arrive. There is no safe in-lobby trade system, so treat any "drop your items" request as a scam.
