Most pets spawn around the map on a timer and are bought with Sheckles before the timer runs out; eggs come mainly from guild competitions. You start with 3 pet slots (expandable to 5).

Pet synergies

For growth, the Deer speeds up every plant; for mutations, the Unicorn raises Rainbow odds and the Golden Dragonfly doubles Golden odds; for defense, the Bee swarms intruders and the Black Dragon makes your garden very hard to raid. The Raccoon even auto-steals at night. Save for extra pet slots once your income is steady so more bonuses stack at once.
